Author Angie Thomas has released the teaser for the film adaptation of her book, The Hate U Give, with a full trailer releasing during the BET Awards on Sunday.
While the teaser for The Hate U Give was originally released at VidCon 2018, Angie Thomas knew that a lot of the fans of her book were unable to be at the con to see the release. So the author took to Twitter to widely release the teaser a few days before the full trailer is set to premiere at the BET Awards on Sunday.
The movie stars Amandla Stenberg as Starr Carter, the film’s protagonist who must stand up and find her voice after witnessing the fatal shooting of her best friend at the hands of a police officer. The book had a huge impact on readers, and judging from the brief look we get of the film in this teaser, it looks like the film will be just as powerful.
So some of you got a chance to see a teaser of @TheHateUGive at #VidCon2018, and I wanted to share it with everyone. Be sure to tune into the @BET Awards this Sunday for a sneak peek at the FULL TRAILER! Then afterwards watch the full trailer online at https://t.co/OMlvgGM3B4. pic.twitter.com/FS6R36CHRq

Thomas’ debut novel was a smashing success with readers, opening at number 1 on the New York Times Bestseller List, and had over 100,000 copies in print for the novel’s first month on the market. So it was no surprise when studios wasted no time to adapt the beloved and timely story into a film.
Be sure to watch the BET Awards on Sunday for a look at the full trailer. The Hate U Give will premiere in movie theaters on October 19.
