America’s Got Talent was back last night for its second night in Tampa Bay. Here’s our recap of last night’s show.
The first act to audition last night was The Untouchables, a dancing group with kids ranging from ages 8 to 13. The group had a very good audition for a dancing act, especially when you take their ages into consideration. Of particular interest is the fact that their coach was the coach and member of the Miami All-Stars, an act that made it to the semi-finals last year. I think that’s very impressive that he’s able to coach a second act past the auditions in two years. The video of The Untouchables starts at the 2:30 mark.
Another successful audition was the American BMX Stunt Team. It is a 10-person stunt team with different kinds of wheels including BMX bikes, skateboards, and inline skates. The act seemed pretty scary because the theater stage is so small. They even said the stage was 1/4 of the size they are used to performing on. The act was highly enjoyable and I look forward to seeing more.
In my opinion, the act of the night belonged to 16-year-old dancer, Lindsey Norton. Lindsey is an acrobatic dancer, and she was absolutely graceful. It’s clear she puts a lot of time into dancing – she said she practices 15-20 hours a week. It was enjoyable to see someone so excited to do well, and it was hard not to smile. Howard even said that she’s everything that America should be about, saying that she works hard, what she does is mesmerizing and inspirational, and that it belongs on a stage.
The final act to make it on to Vegas from Tampa Bay was Big Barry. Standing at a tall 4’10”, Big Barry called himself a teenager in a 70-year-old’s body. He dressed similar to John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever and sang the Jazz standard “I’ve Got the World on a String.” Howard initially buzzed him, but after much begging from Howie, Howard sent him on to Vegas just to prove that he does indeed have a heart. Some will say that Big Barry was so bad that he’s good, but in actuality he’s just bad. I’m not looking forward to subjecting myself to his voice again.
That’s all for AGT this week. It’ll be back next week with the final rounds of auditions and the promise of the best act so far. Let’s hope it delivers.
