American Horror Story: Apocalypse just cast The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story alum Cody Fern in a key role for the horror anthology’s new season.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse is set to be one of the most ambitious of the horror anthology, overlapping the worlds from the first season, Murder House, and the third, Coven. Fans are excited, and now that news has broken that the pivotal role of Michael Langdon — the evil baby from Murder House — has been cast, the Apocalypse is feeling closer than ever.
True to Ryan Murphy form, if you’re a fan of his work as a whole, you’ve seen the actor playing Michael Landon before. Cody Fern was a breakout performer in Murphy’s other anthology series, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. As The Hollywood Reporter states, Murphy released a statement on Thursday sharing his excitement over casting Fern, saying, “Excited to announce Cody Fern will be playing the role of Michael Langdon in American Horror Story: Apocalypse.”
The character of Michael Langdon is going to be a pivotal character for Apocalypse. Conceived when Evan Peters’ character Tate Langdon (aka Rubber Man) raped Connie Britton’s character, Vivien Harmon, Michael isn’t just supposed to be a baby born of tragic circumstances–he’s essentially supposed to be a completely evil entity.
At the end of Murder House, Michael went to live with his next-door neighbor, Constance Langdon (Jessica Lange). It hasn’t yet been announced if Lange or Britton would be returning, but Peters has been confirmed for Apocalypse, albeit he seems to be returning as a new, more light-hearted character.
So while we don’t yet know if Michael Langdon’s birth mom or his adoptive mother will be returning to the show, Cody Fern’s casting does seem to indicate that we’re going to be catching up with Michael several years after the events of Murder House. Michael was pretty horrific as a toddler, so we can’t help but shudder to think what he’ll be like as an adult.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse will premiere on FX on September 12.
