Update 2: Eurogamer spoke to Gamescom organisers who have said the list was “a mistake.” Update: Valve has stated that the Half-Life 3 reports are false.
Original story: Could this week be the week that Valve finally, officially reveals Half-Life 3? Could we get a first look at Dragon Age 3? A list of games that are due to appear at Gamescom, Europe’s largest gaming convention, was found on the official website, and it includes these two unannounced giants.
The list is found on a PDF in German, but a NeoGAF user has translated the disclaimer at the top of the document.
Expected announcements gamescom 2012. *Please take note of the sources: exhibitors, media, intenet forums, blogs. *no responsibility is taken for the correctness of this information. Some games are only shown behind closed doors.
Included in the list amongst the dozens of games are The Last of Us, Dragon Age 3 and Half-Life 3.
However, speaking to Lambda Generation, Doug Lombardi of Valve has quashed the Half-Life 3 side of these rumours:
We will have the Steam team there to meet with developers and publishers. No game showing planned.
Eurogamer spoke to the organisers of the convention who assured them that the list was “a mistake.” Eurogamer asked three times why the games were listed but did not receive an explanatory response.
We’re still hopeful – but then again, we love conspiracies.
