The Color of Snow is an intriguing read told from both the victim’s and captor’s point of a view. The story is deeply layered and engaging. This is a must read.
Brenda Stanley creates a story that covers both past and present. The kidnapper, known as Papa tells his tale in the past describing how he came to take Sophie as a baby and raise her. Sophie’s story is told from the present as she tries to re-enter a society that she has never known. There are elements of the supernatural as well in the story which keep you guessing about where the plot is headed. There are also strong religious elements to the story, however, they are not preachy in anyway – they simply add another layer to the intricately woven tale.
The story is thought provoking and filled with quiet, heart wrenching moments. The story telling is fantastic. The switch in point of view and time period keeps the story flowing and keeps you engaged – needing to know what happens next. I highly suggest this novel as it is a compelling read that will keeping you thinking long after you’ve finished reading it.
