The Killing, AMC’s adaptation of the popular Danish drama Forbrydelsen, has been cancelled following its second season finale. But is all hope lost for Sarah Linden?
TV Line broke the news today that The Killing won’t be returning for season 3. The decision was made after much careful deliberation by AMC, which issued the following statement:
We’ve come to the difficult decision not to renew The Killing for a third season. AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast.
The second season of the series finally answered the mystery of who killed Rosie Larsen, but fans were complaining that the reveal was too little, too late. The producers decided to drag out the mystery over two seasons as opposed to answering it in season 1 and moving on to something different, as was done in the original Danish series.
The season finale delivered disappointing ratings: 1.4 million, which was down 39% from the season 1 finale. Perhaps the cancellation news isn’t too shocking considering this, but it is none the less a blow to fans who were looking forward to seeing where the show could go next.
Update: Zap2It reports that there may be hope for the series yet. Fox Television Studios has issued a statement saying, “We will proceed to try to find another home for the show.”
