Before “Moves Like Jagger,” Maroon 5 had been opposed to bringing in outside writers to co-write their songs. The band has since changed its mind and so has its music.
Rolling Stone caught up with Maroon 5 during a recording session for their upcoming album Overexposed and spoke to the band about their new acceptance of outside song writers.
“Up to now, we’ve been insulated from the pop-industrial complex,” guitarist James Valentine told Rolling Stone. “We’ve been like, ‘F–k you, we’re a band.’ But now, stepping into this new world of songwriters and producers, it feels fun.”
“Moves Like Jagger” was Maroon 5’s first experience with a non-band member as a co-writer.
“‘Jagger’ was almost a mistake,” Adam Levine told Rolling Stone. “I was scared to release it – but also turned on by that fear. It was the fresh injection we needed. We’ve been together a long time – it’s like a marriage, where we needed to get kinky in the bedroom.”
With “Jagger” co-writers Benny Blanco and Shellback returning for Overexposed, Maroon 5’s upcoming album is bound to be a great dose of fun, summer music.
Overexposed is due June 26. Are you looking forward to this album?
