One Direction and The Wanted have resurrected the boy band from its late-90s slumber, and former ’N Sync member J.C. Chasez has some advice for the new kids on the block. That doesn’t mean he’ll be going back to his boy band roots any time soon.
With Kevin Richardson reuniting with the Backstreet Boys to tour and record a new album, will ‘N Sync be next? Not likely. Chasez dispelled the idea of an ’N Sync reunion, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“It’s just not in the cards,” he said. “I’m sure that everybody in my group has been asked at one time or another — I know I get asked, I know the other guys get asked — but we’re happy with what it was, and we’re happy to move on.”
“We really feel like if you’re going to do something like that, it has to be for all the right reasons,” he explained. “Everybody says, ‘Oh you’ll make a ton of money, you’ll get a ton of people to come,’ but that’s not the reason we did what we did in the first place. We did what we did because we believed we had something to offer the entertainment world that was essentially fresh, and until we feel that way again, it’s not gonna happen.”
As for the boy bands of today, Chasez is a fan of The Wanted’s “Glad You Came” and called One Direction “a breath of fresh air.” He also had some wisdom to share with the newbies.
“The best piece of advice I could give to anybody in a group is just respect each other,” he said. “You might not always agree, but the best thing you can do for yourself is respect each other and keep an open mind.”
