Listen for the sound of many a fan’s dreams being crushed. One analyst is predicting Grand Theft Auto V will not be releasing until next year.
Forbes reports that Sterne Agree analyst Arvind Bhatia is advising Take Two not to release the next Grand Theft Auto game in the December quarter of 2012, but instead, the March quarter of 2013.
Bhatia contends the advantages to the publisher will be many, including a less competitive release calendar, larger installed base that could include the Wii U and that it will give the developer more time for polish.
Though this is only one analyst’s prediction and Take Two has not yet released any hard information on the game’s release, I think this would be a smart move for Take Two. Grand Theft Auto V will most likely sell millions of units no matter when it releases and it can’t hurt to release it at its best.A 2013 release would also help to avoid cannibalizing the publisher’s other major title that is scheduled for release in the fall, Bioshock Infinite. Not to mention, developer Rockstar owns the month of May which happens to fall in the suggested release window.
