Amazon Studios’ The Lord of the Rings series has found its newest director in Wayne Che Yip.
In a press release sent out on Wednesday (March 24), Amazon Studios announced that Wayne Che Yip is the latest to join the creative team tasked with brining the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings series to life.
For his part, the British Chinese director, whose previous credits include Hunters, Preacher, and Doctor Who, has signed on as a director and co-executive producer.
Yip will be helming four episodes of the forthcoming series, which is currently filming out in New Zealand. He takes over the reins from Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona, who directed the first two episodes of the series.
In a statement announcing his involvement with The Lord of the Rings series, Yip spoke of how honored he is to help bring author J.R.R. Tolkien’s world to life on the small screen.
“It is a true honor to be invited into the world of Tolkien by J.D. & Patrick and Amazon Studios. Every day I look forward to working with the incredible team here in New Zealand as we humbly contribute to the legacy of the greatest stories ever told,” said Yip.
The newly minted director joins a crew of creatives behind the scenes on the series which includes show runners and executive producers, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Other executive producers on the project include Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, Sharon Tal Yguado, and producer Christopher Newman.
Production on the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings series has been picking up steam over the course of the past few months— especially on the casting front.
