Looks like ‘The Crown’ will reign supreme over at Netflix for six seasons instead of the original five!
Fans of The Crown have long-since known that the series was never intended to run for more than a handful of seasons. In fact, creator Peter Morgan has long since stated that he’s always had a five season plan in mind for the hit royal drama.
In a bit of brilliant news for fans of the series, however, Morgan is now switching gears— and gearing up to bring fans even more episodes than they originally bargained for!
The new plan as it stands currently is for The Crown to run for six seasons, inters of the originally intended five.
Netflix took to Twitter on Thursday (July 6) to share the good news of a season 6 with fans far and wide, tweeting,“News from the palace: we can confirm there will be a sixth (and final) season of @TheCrownNetflix, in addition to the previously announced five!”

Meanwhile, a report via Deadline shares a bit more insight with regards to creator Peter Morgan’s decision to tack on an extra season to the series after all.
“As we started to discuss the storylines for [season] 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the show we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” said Morgan according to the outlet. “To be clear, [season] 6 will not bring us any closer to the present-day— it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”
When season 6 inevitably bows, it’ll delve into what transpired during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign during the early 2000s.
As season 6 is currently quite a ways off, there’s no word yet on when we might expect it to air.
That being said, The Crown season 4 is expected to arrive on Netflix sometime toward the end of 2020.
