The Merc with a Mouth is toning things down a bit for the PG-13 release of Deadpool 2, called Once Upon a Deadpool.
You can’t help but love Ryan Reynold’s depiction of Deadpool. Mr. Pool, aka Wade Wilson, might be crass, foul-mouthed, rude, and harsh, but he’s got charm for days that keeps audiences laughing and coming back for more. Still, Deadpool flicks can be a lot for some, especially in the gore department, so this holiday season the Deadpool team has given us a great gift in Once Upon a Deadpool.
Once Upon a Deadpool is the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2, and unlike a lot of PG-13 versions of originally R-rated films, this isn’t just a trimmed down version of the movie. No, the Deadpool team actually took the time to add additional footage for this toned-down version of the film and politely asked for the help of (and definitely did not kidnap) Fred Savage to tell the slightly more family-friendly version of the story.
Fox released a trailer for the upcoming film, which is set to re-release in theaters, and it looks absolutely fantastic.
Ultimately, the story doesn’t change in the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2, but we’re so excited to see Fred Savage’s Princess Bride-inspired additions to the movie. And though Deadpool employs Savage because he believes him to be the epitome of family-friendly entertainment, Savage doesn’t shy away from telling Deadpool exactly he thinks of him. We’re pretty excited to see the snark that Savage is going to bring to this flick.
Once Upon a Deadpool is here to liven up your holiday celebrations, and will release in theaters everywhere on December 12. And to be honest, we can’t think of anyone we’d rather spend the holiday season with than Wade Wilson and a definitely-not-held-against-his-will Fred Savage.
