About ‘The Soul Mate’ by Kendall Ryan:
From New York Times Bestseller Kendall Ryan comes a sexy new stand-alone novel in her Roommates series.
The smoking-hot one-night stand I was never supposed to see again?
Yeah, well, I might be pregnant, and he’s my OB-GYN.
‘The Soul Mate’ by Kendall Ryan exclusive excerpt:
“Dr. Bentley?”
“What’s up, Jean?” I asked. She was the newest of the nurses and still referred to all of us by our titles even when we weren’t in front of patients, so I tried to make my smile extra friendly.
“There was a cancellation this morning and we had someone fill the spot with a new patient. I know you’ve got a lot on your plate but I was wondering if maybe—”
I held up my hand. “No problem. When’s the appointment?”
“Um, that’s sort of the thing. She’s here now.”
I made sure not to wince visibly, knowing she was already walking on eggshells due to nerves and not wanting to make it worse. “Right, okay. Well, draw her blood and get her in her gown and I’ll be in as soon as I can.”
Jean started to leave the room, but I called her back.
“The intake form?” I asked, and she let out a shrill laugh as her cheeks flamed red.
“Right, right. Duh! Here you go.” She dropped the slip of paper on my desk along with a medical history folder, and I glanced at the tidy, pretty script.
Ashley Matthews.
Pretty normal history and on the younger side. I flicked through the pages in her folder, then sent off the last few emails in my in-box before heading back down the hall. Trent was going to owe me for taking on yet another new patient—if he was smart, he would bring back a coffee for me regardless of the fact that I didn’t go with him.
Gently I knocked on the door, and Jean appeared from around the corner.
“Dr. Bentley is here,” she informed the woman who was lying like she’d recently been hit by a truck. Her hair was slung over the side of the bed and her arm was flung dramatically over her face.
“Not feeling well?” I asked.
“Ugh,” the patient groaned, and Jean piped in.
“Miss Matthews isn’t the biggest fan of…lady doctor visits.”
“Can we…uh… just get the uncomfortable part over with as soon as possible, please?” our patient added in a strangled whisper, still not removing her arm from over her face.
“No problem. I totally understand.” I made my way to the sink and washed my hands before putting on my gloves and taking my seat. Luckily, Miss Matthews seemed to know the drill—she’d scooted all the way to the end of the table, and her feet were already firmly in the stirrups.
I placed the light, turned it on, and then said, “Okay, Miss Matthews, I’m just going to—”
“I’ve had an exam before. I know the drill,” she groaned.
I forced a smile.
It takes all kinds.
“All righty, then, let’s not waste any more time.” Being as gentle as possible so as not to spook her even worse, I slid two fingers inside her vaginal canal, ready to make my way deeper and check for anything concerning, when suddenly my heart stopped dead and, for the first time since I’d added the title of “Doctor” to my name, my cock twitched during an exam. She was pink, soft, warm, and utterly perfect. Tight as a glove with pleasantly plump little lips. Fuck! What was happening to me?
Apparently I was losing it because her smell made me want to bury my face between her legs, and I was pretty sure that was frowned upon in the medical profession.
No way. There is no fucking way.
Realization dawned all at once and I felt the room sway.
This was not the first time these two fingers had been inside that vagina.
I swallowed hard and retracted my fingers as swiftly as I could manage without hurting her. Then I looked up, taking a moment to study the blond hair hanging over the exam table—the creamy whiteness of the arm covering her face.
There was no doubt now.
“Bren?” I murmured softly.
