Music fans that have been missing Macklemore are in luck. The rapper hit us with a new track on Thursday called “Glorious” that’s bound to be a total summer jam.
It’s been a while since we heard from Macklemore, but the Grammy Award-winning artist is “back like [he] never left” and giving us all a taste of what’s to come on his upcoming solo record.
“Glorious” marks a bit of a milestone for the rapper, as it’s the first track he’s released without Ryan Lewis, the rapper’s long-time collaborator featured on hits like “Thrift Shop,” “Can’t Hold Us,” and more.
Though the uplifting bop doesn’t feature a credit to Lewis, it does find Macklemore collaborating with another musician. The rapper tapped pop star Skylar Grey (Diddy-Dirty Money’s “Coming Home,” Rihanna and Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie”) to sing the track’s infectiously catchy hook.
According to Billboard, Macklemore’s upcoming album marks his first solo offering in 12 years. The rapper’s last two records, The Heist and last year’s This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, were collaborative efforts with Lewis, so this is the first time in over a decade the rapper will be stepping out on his own.
We’ll be interested to see how Macklemore’s solo efforts differ from his collaborative offerings with Lewis, although given that “Glorious” is very much in the same vein with the summer jams he’s put out in the past, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be veering too far from his roots.
