School’s back in session, but we’ve got a few other extracurriculars in mind. Here’s eleven new YA books debuting in fall 2016 that have us falling in love with the idea of the upcoming changing leaves.

’A Torch Against the Night’ by Sabaa Tahir
Sabaa Tahir’s anticipated sequel to the devastating and heart-pounding An Ember in the Ashes kicks things off into high gear when it debuts this Tuesday, August 30. Elias and Laia are on the run from the Empire, with fan favorite Helene tasked with taking them down.
‘The Thousandth Floor’ by Katharine McGee
Katherine McGee’s debut novel also comes out this Tuesday, August 30, with a story set one-hundred years in New York City’s future with a fresh crop of Upper East Side socialites that promise to be just as scandalous as any classic Gossip Girl faves.
‘Empire of Storms’ by Sarah J. Maas
While the fourth novel in Sarah J. Maas’ epic Throne of Glass series left fans divided, this year’s followup, Empire of Storms is bringing back the action on September 6th. After years of watching Aelin work amidst the shadows, we’ll finally get the chance to see her in power, making the full transition from assassin to ruling queen.
‘The Reader’ by Traci Chee
When Sefia’s father is killed and her aunt is kidnapped, Sefia knows she must do whatever it takes to uncover the truth and reap her revenge. But living amidst an illiterate society, it seems that her answers may lie in her father’s mysterious, rectangular object called a “book.” Traci Chee’s debut novel arrives on September 13.
‘Stealing Snow’ by Danielle Paige
The author of Dorothy Must Die is back on September 20 with another retelling, this time taking us into the frozen fantasy world of the Snow Queen. Snow has been trapped in a New York mental institution for most of her life, but when she finally breaks free, she finds that her true world is a kingdom of curious thieves, magic witches, and ruthless ice.
’Crooked Kingdom’ by Leigh Bardugo
The sequel to Leigh Bardugo’s stunning Six of Crows continues Kaz and the crew’s story on September 27 with the fallout from their daring heist.
‘Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Hammer of Thor’ by Rick Riordan
Rick Riordan is back at it again on October 4 with the newest installment in his mythological demigod world. Son of the Norse god Frey and cousin to fan favorite Annabeth Chase, Magnus is just your average sixteen year-old who’s tasked with retrieving Thor’s Hammer and saving the nine worlds from impending doom.
‘The Midnight Star’ by Marie Lu
Marie Lu’s The Young Elites trilogy comes to a close on October 11, and our anti-hero Adelina’s willingness to do whatever it takes has left her on top. But will her growing cruelty keep her there?
‘The Sun is Also a Star’ by Nicola Yoon
Natasha believes in science and doesn’t have time to hope while her family is on the verge of being deported to Jamaica. Daniel is the studious son and overachiever; he follows the rules and doesn’t know why he suddenly feels like a poet. Debuting on November 1, The Sun is Also a Star is a beautiful, heart aching love story.
‘Heartless’ by Marissa Meyer
Marissa Meyer is back with another fairytale this November 8 with her Wonderland retelling Heartless, which delves into the backstory of the infamous Queen of Hearts. But was the villainous queen always all that bad? Or is there a secret story we aren’t told — one of a starry-eyed girl in love who never wanted to be queen to begin with?
‘Fate of Flames’ by Sarah Raughley
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Four girls each with the power over one of the four elements. Together, these girls are called the Effigies, and their purpose is to defeat the Phantoms who terrorize the world, each girl’s power reincarnating in another to replace her when she dies.
