Remember the days of guessing what happens in the next Harry Potter book? They’re back!
Predictions. Theories. Re-reads. Overthinking things. With the “eighth story” arriving in just a few days, fans have spent July feverishly wondering what comes next. So, Hypable asked readers who’ve avoided spoilers to share their Harry Potter and the Cursed Child predictions.
Anyone who hasn’t been spoiled is probably feeling on edge right now. We’ve waited months — hell, years — for this. “What the hell’s going to happen?” and “OMG, there’s a new Harry Potter book coming” are just a few of the thoughts running through all of our heads.
A couple weeks ago we asked those who haven’t been spoiled to submit predictions via a private form so no troublemakers purposely spoiled people in the comments. Now, we’re ready to share everyone’s guesses.
Below are the predictions made by our readers. We selected one of three submitted by each of the participants, and didn’t include anyone who we thought was purposely trying to spoil.
Do you agree/disagree with any of guesses? If so, let us know on social media (because if you’re going into the book clean, we don’t recommend looking at the comments of this article).
68 ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ plot predictions

- T. Collier (Alabama): The original trio will survive the story.
- Nova Lee (USA): There will be a new evil force and the next generation will have to fight it.

- Irvin K (New York): We’ll get to see some sort of reconciliation between Draco and Harry.
- Amber (Utah): Ron and Hermione are divorced.
- Corneel Vanfleteren (Belgium): Albus Severus Potter will be sorted into Slytherin, and that will bring out the worst in him. He will turn evil.
- LA (Long Island): There will be a big reveal about Voldemort.
- Mackenzie (St Ottery Catchpole): Slytherins are not all that bad anymore.
- Devra (USA): The Cursed Child is not Albus Potter.
- Lucas (Standford, IL): Ginny is pregnant with another child, “The Cursed Child.”
- Lizzie (Seattle): Albus Severus is in Ravenclaw.
- AKS (The Moon): One of the characters we know and love from the original seven books will die.
- The Wizard of Oz (Emerald City): Neville becomes a Hagrid-type figure for Albus, Scorpius, and Rose.
- Beth (United Kingdom): Harry is kidnapped/goes missing at the end of Part 1 and Albus has to rescue him.
- Bean (Bay Area, CA): Hermione’s pregnant again.
- Dosei Evans (Chicago): Ron dies in some way, shape, or form.
- Guessy McGuesseryson (Kentucky): Time travel will be involved…I’m not sure how though. Harry will either communicate with his parents, Dumbledore, Voldemort, or his younger self about the “Cursed Child.” My money is on Dumbledore though.
- David Harris (New York): Albus Severus is the reborn Lord Voldemort.
- Chessa (Washington): There better be a new villain
- Rachel (USA): Harry will yell dramatically and Hermione (or Ron) will be like, “Chill.”
- LemurLady (Farallon Islands, California): Voldemort had a son. But he’s not evil like Voldemort. He has other issues.
- Rachel (Hogwarts): Scorpius and Rose are dating.
- Jeff (Nashville): An extremely main character will have died by the story’s conclusion.
- Mis Liz (AZ): Harry’s child brings home a friend that doesn’t seem quite right and Harry helps his son investigate.
- HarryPotterFan1234 (Australia): Scorpius and Rose get together (I hope).
- GinnyWeasley002 (Texas): We’ll finally figure out where Harry got his new scar — the “Nasty cut over his right cheekbone” that Rita Skeeter was telling us about!

- Tony (Switzerland): Harry is the cursed child.
- Shilpa (India): Remus Lupin’s son is the cursed child.
- Katie (Colorado): I think that somehow this comes back to Voldemort. I don’t know how Jo will weave him in but I think he has something to do with the plot.
- Chaitanya Kohli (London): Someone close to Harry betrays him and Albus much like Peter Pettigrew.
- Krystal Klear (US): A former Death Eater may be involved in a dark magic crisis in Hogwarts.
- Eduardo (Portugal): Ron and Hermione will divorce.
- The Eerie One (Narnia): Harry Potter will be a terrible father.
- Rilee Kennedy (Alabama): A new character will be Headmaster of Hogwarts.
- Bob (Alaska): Harry’s child gets cursed by a remaining Death Eater.
- PotterHead227: Harry’s scar will start to hurt him again.
- Andrew (Kansas City): Albus Severus is a hatstall.
- Tithe (USA): No one important is in Hufflepuff… :(
- Rose Malfoy: Unfortunately, something with Voldemort will happen, since he was the main antagonist in the original series and this is an expansion on the OS. I don’t think Voldemort will be back, though — maybe a relative, another descendant of Slytherin or the Riddles who nobody knew of.
- Rubina (Orlando): I think at least one of the students will be an openly LGBTQ+ character.
- Mahira (Colorado): Rose is smart, but takes more after Ron in personality/school work.
- Sophie (UK): Ginny will represent book Ginny more than film Ginny.
- JCBruin (Los Angeles): Hermione is a badass.
- IAmKevin0827 (Phillippines): The cursed child will be a Slytherin heir.
- Atomo (Mars): Hermione leads the Ministry of Magic and finally frees house elves.
- Kaia (Disneyland): Hagrid dies during the play.
- Dovid (Lakewood, NJ): Harry suffers from depression.
- GinnyAndIRequireTheRoom (Greater Boston, MA): Ginny and Harry’s bland sex life is hinted at, although not explicitly discussed.
- BIG PURPLE (LINY): HOGWARTS IS NO LONGER SAFE ONCE AGAIN.
- EI (America): I have a theory that Harry’s son is haunted by the ghost of Voldemort which lives on because it seems that the entire series is revolved around him, and I can’t see Voldemort not being mentioned in “the Cursed Child.”
- Madison (Orlando): I predict that Ron and Hermione will be at odds in the matter of Ron’s career.
- Kelly O’Kidd (CT): The cursed child is someone not related to either Harry, Ron or Hermione. It’s a separate character that becomes involved with the Potter and Weasley children at Hogwarts.
- Matthew Tan (Singapore): The Cursed Child is Harry’s child.
- Lily Green (Hogwarts): Albus Potter will be a Slytherin at Hogwarts.
- Kay E. (New Brunswick, Canada): I think Teddy Lupin will be in it.
- Selina (London): Sirius Black is alive but Harry gets to know he is evil.
- Morgan May (USA): In the beginning of Part One, Ron will die, which will result in Hermione entering the Potter family as “Aunt Hermione.” At the end of Part One, Ginny will die, and Harry and Hermione will be left together. Distraught by both of their loved ones’ deaths, they will turn towards each other and enter into a lifetime partnership. The conclusion of the play will be an actual marriage between Jamie Parker and Noma Dumezweni, which is why this story has to be told in a live play format.
- Elvendork (Somewhere Near Mountains): The Chamber of Secrets will be a part of the story, or it will be opened.
- Amos (Berlin, Germany): Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione are happily married, but disagree on how to raise their children.
- Bob (Coolgardie, WA, Aus): Neville is a fantastic teacher.
- Autumn (USA): The Malfoys and Potters will finally get along.

- Taedae (Canada): Draco gets a proper redemption.
- Jade (USA): Scorpius will be sorted into Gryffindor.
- Eliza (Bremerton): Astoria Malfoy dies…? IDK just because she wasn’t in the photos and it seems like Draco can’t be happy
- Hypable’s Brittany (New Jersey): I suspect that we are not quite done with the Dursleys and that more information about them will play an important role in Cursed Child.
‘The Cursed Child’ will be released around the world on July 31!
