For many of us who grew up watching the original Power Rangers TV show, it’s exciting to see a new generation introduced to the characters. The director, Dean Israelite, spoke about focusing on diversity, saying, “From the very beginning, diversity was a very important part of the whole process. We switched all of the races around, but we made sure that the essence of each of those characters are who they were in the original show
Elizabeth Banks revealed back in early February that she’ll be playing Rita Repulsa, who is an alien witch from the original TV show. She seemed extremely excited about landing the part and we look forward to seeing her take on a film role after having a couple very busy years.
Lionsgate has set Power Rangers to be released on March 24, 2017.
Dean Israelite, who directed Project Almanac, will direct Power Rangers, with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama writing the script. Alli Shearmur is the film’s executive producer, with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey producing.
Power Rangers’ official synopsis: “From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.”
