Alias actress Merrin Dungey has been added to the pilot for Conviction, the ABC series that’s making Agent Carter fans nervous.
Previously, we told you Hayley Atwell has been cast as the lead for Conviction, playing a former First Daughter forced into an unlikely leadership position at the (fictional) Conviction Integrity Unity in Los Angeles. Her character, Carter Morrison, will work alongside legal and scientific teams to research and overturn wrongful convictions — a hot subject in today’s legal climate.
According to Variety, Dungey’s character’s name is Maxine, who will be the “lead investigator for the Conviction Integrity Unit. Maxine is a former NYPD detective from a cop family who is described as being tough and no-nonsense. She’ll find her previously unfailing loyalty to the badge tested as she delves into her former colleagues’ cases.”
I'm so proud and excited to be a part of this new show!! https://t.co/2lVGz5OKmA

ABC aficionados may recognize Dungey from her role as Ursula on Once Upon a Time, as well as having other significant roles on Chasing Life and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She spent 2001-2003 as Francie Calfo/Allison Doren on Alias.
In addition to Dungey and Atwell, Shawn Ashmore, Emily Kinney and Manny Montana will also be heading to Conviction. (And as a huge fan of The Following, I can’t wait to see Ashmore pick up a role even remotely related to his previous one on that show, especially if it means he’s starring opposite Atwell.)
We still don’t know what Conviction means for Agent Carter, the ratings of which have not been overwhelmingly strong despite fan response to the character and all of her adventures. It’s more than possible that Atwell could star in both shows, especially considering they’re each on ABC.
It’s also important to remember this is just a pilot order. There’s a (small) chance it won’t get a series order from ABC, though that also wouldn’t necessarily mean Agent Carter is out of hot water.
Best to keep your fingers crossed, just in case.
