Despite already being in production, Marvel’s Doctor Strange has gained another actor for a new character, and it’s Benedict Wong from The Martian.
It seems like Doctor Strange keeps adding actors to its cast and now the standout actor from The Martian (Benedict Wong), has been cast as the character Wong in Doctor Strange alongside Benedict Cumberbatch.
Talk about strange and confusing. Benedict Wong will be playing Doctor Strange’s manservant and sidekick, named Wong, and THR reports that he’s going to have a pretty major role in the film. The actor was great in The Martian this past year, where he played the director of the Jet Propulsion Lab that had to build a supply rocket in a hurry to save Matt Damon from starvation.
While his scenes were few and far between, he was great in the film, and it’s exciting to see him joining the Marvel universe. Wong was also seen in Netflix’s Marco Polo as Kublai Khan and before that as one of the crew in Prometheus.
As for his role in Doctor Strange, he’ll be the sidekick of Benedict Cumberbatch’s character, so we imagine this will be a role that will get him quite a few more scenes than he’s had in the past. It’ll be interesting to find out if he becomes his sidekick after Doctor Strange’s transformation, as we’ve seen some set images that show the doctor in street clothes.
Scott Derrickson is set to direct Marvel’s Doctor Strange, with Jon Spaihts penning the script. The film’s release date has been set for November 4, 2016.
Doctor Strange’s official synopsis reads, “Before he met the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange was an unlikable and egotistical neurosurgeon. Everything changes when a car accident limits Strange’s use of his hands, sending him on a maddening quest for a miracle cure. This origin story introduces the magical and mystical realms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
