Doctor Who is back tonight and sleep is something that might just get you killed.
According to the official description, tonight’s episode, “Sleep No More,” is a terrifying story assembled from footage discovered in the wreckage of Le Verrier Space Station.
To tease out the episode, the official Doctor Who site put out this statement along with two videos:
“Our colleagues in the Black Archive have recently examined content which they believe to have originated from the 38th century and we need your help… Can you throw light on the latest artefacts acquired by UNIT from our ‘contact’ in Utah?
We’re particularly keen to learn more about these two snippets of video footage which Malcolm claims have somehow been broadcast from the future… (Yes, we know it’s a crazy theory. He’s over tired. Maybe he just needs a bit more sleep?).”
“Sleep No More” is penned by Mark Gatiss. This will be the eighth Doctor Who episode that Gatiss has written since 2005. His most recent episode was “Robots of Sherwood,” which aired last year. Most viewers will recognize Gatiss as Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat’s co-collaborator on Sherlock, as well as the actor who plays Mycroft Holmes.
This week’s co-star is Reece Shearsmith, who is best known in the U.K. as a comedian and actor. He is a big fan of the show. Back when he was first cast, Shearsmith stated, “I am absolutely thrilled to be filming Doctor Who as Mark Gatiss has written a fantastic role for me in a very scary episode. It has been so exciting to be part of a very singular episode — which, I can say with authority will be unlike any previous episode of Doctor Who. It’s a joy to play a part in the show — certainly a badge of honour.”
Doctor Who airs tonight on BBC America at 9:00 p.m.
