Ezra and Sabine got a bitter taste of enemies lurking in the darkness in Star Wars Rebels 2×05, “Always Two There Are.”
Predators
Sabine, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper scout out an abandoned medical center, searching for medical supplies for the Rebellion. The place is eerie and labyrinthine, making it difficult to find the supplies… and difficult to spot the small probe droids that are waiting for the rebels.
The droids belong to a female Inquisitor (the Seventh Sister), who turns up quickly and takes Ezra as her prisoner. She is joined by the male Inquisitor (the Fifth Brother) from last week’s episode, who then captures Sabine.
The male Inquisitor seems more attuned to the Force (he’s always “sensing” something or other). The Seventh Sister, however, immediately makes an impact as a skilled fighter and manipulative tactician.
Intelligent, flirtatious, and ruthless, she and Ezra trade barbs before the Seventh Sister tries to cajole him into giving up the location of Ahsoka and Kanan.
To the extent, in fact, that the Seventh Sister tries to torture Ezra — not unlike Poe Dameron in The Force Awakens trailer — though he doesn’t break.
Prey
When the Fifth Brother arrives with Sabine, it becomes even more clear that the two teenagers are terrifyingly overmatched. For all of Ezra’s bravado, his and Sabine’s lives are in very real danger — a fact that seems to hit Sabine much more strongly than it does the young Jedi-in-training.
Luckily, Zeb and Chopper are able to set a trap for the Inquisitors. Though Zeb struggles to overcome his own self-doubt, he refuses to leave without his crew-mates.
But even with their combined effort, they can barely break away from the Inquisitors, who try to use the Force to keep hold of their captives.
Back on the Ghost, Ezra and a thoroughly-shaken Sabine report on their close call. Kanan is shocked to learn that there are more Inquisitors out there, hunting Jedi — especially since this casts Ahsoka’s fate.
When Sabine and Ezra leave, Kanan sags against Hera in dismay.
“We really have no idea what we’re up against,” he says.
