The earthquake in Miracle sends everyone to the empty lake on tonight’s The Leftovers season 2, episode 4. Will they find what they are looking for?
The Leftovers season 2 spent the first three episodes filling in the six month gap between when the Guilty Remnant unleashed their final protest in Mapleton to Kevin waking up in an empty lake in Miracle, Texas. Tonight’s Leftovers returns to the present where an earthquake ripped away the thin veil of safety that cloaked the town.
Two questions drive this week’s episode, “Orange Sticker.”
Where is the water?
The earthquake did more than wake up the entire town and knock a few knickknacks off the wall. The water from the lake where Evie and her friends frequently swim disappears. On the one hand, the water’s disappearance saved Kevin’s life. On the other hand, Evie and her friends disappeared with the water.
Kevin continues on his streak of honesty, but leaves out one important detail about his night at the lake — the cinder block tied to his ankle.
Can the Departure happen again?
Can anyone guarantee that the Sudden Departure was a one-time occurrence? What if it can happen again on a smaller scale? In the second episode of the season, The Leftovers focused on the idea that location played a role in who was chosen to depart and who remained. If only the water and the girls disappeared from the lake in Miracle, is it possible they were in the right place at the wrong time?
The Leftovers is not a show of answers, but perhaps it is time Kevin acknowledge Patti Levin and see if she has some answers.
