Meet your new Frenchy! Singer Carly Rae Jepsen will take on the iconic Pink Lady character in Fox’s live version of Grease.
Grease: Live has added Carly Rae Jepsen to its star studded cast. The singer will play fan favorite Frenchy, who is an important role as one of Sandy’s closest friends. Sandy will be played by Julianne Hough, while Danny will be played by Aaron Tveit.
The Pink Ladies will be rounded out with Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, Keke Palmer as Marty, and Kether Donohue as Jan. The T-Birds will include Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie, and David Del Rio as Putzie.
Grease: Live will try to “reimagine” the musical’s most memorable moments, music, and love story. As fans know from the classic musical, the story focuses on the end of Danny and Sandy’s summer romance which they never expected to last. But then Sandy suddenly, and unknowingly, transfers to Danny’s high school. They then struggle with the pull of their love against their clashing friends.
It should be interesting to see how Fox will put a spin on Grease. It’s definitely a well loved musical and if they do it right it could be a big hit. But relying on bringing in big named stars won’t be enough. We can definitely see Jepsen working out as Frenchy, but we hope that they don’t try to change things too much!
