A new trailer for Pixar’s second film of 2015, The Good Dinosaur, features the characters speaking for the first time.
While the first trailer for The Good Dinosaur offered beautiful visuals, the preview lacked dialogue. This presentation led us to wonder if the film would be on Wall-E levels in terms of speaking roles.
The new trailer, which was released for a Spanish-speaking country, features a few of the characters speaking (English). Take a look:
We hear from three characters in this trailer: Arlo’s father* (Jeffrey Wright), Arlo (Raymond Ochoa), and a T-Rex named Butch (Sam Elliott). Other actors in the film include Anna Paquin (who plays another T-Rex named Ramsey), A.J. Buckley, Steve Zahn, and Frances McDormand (Arlo’s mother, Momma).
Arlo’s father’s role is an interesting one to talk about. Disney fans learned at the D23 Expo last month that Arlo would be separated from his dad in a tragic accident, setting off Arlo’s journey (Today’s new trailer hints at this separation). When director Peter Sohn told the audience this, there was a loud groan in my section of the audience.
This child-loses-parent-to-pack-an-emotional-punch trope is used very frequently, particularly in Disney films, and the groans I heard may’ve indicated that viewers are running out of patience for it. With that said, I remain hopeful The Good Dinosaur will offer a unique and compelling story.
In related news, Pixar released a gorgeous new poster for The Good Dinosaur last week. Look at those glowing bugs!
The movie opens in theaters this November. Will it be as great as Inside Out? We can’t wait to find out!
