Aftermath
Phones ring, waking everyone up. A reckoning has been called. Ethan brings Kate up on the stage. Members of the resistance come up behind the crowd, drawing their weapons. Ethan puts a blade to Kate’s throat and asks if her death is what the town wants. They cheer.
At the fence, Abbies devour the remains of Alan and Eric. One then crawls under the truck and through the fence. It’s promptly hit by the sheriff’s truck, though, and Ethan shoots it. As more Abbies crawl under the truck, Ethan shoots the wheels out, collapsing it on top of them.
In the sheriff’s department, Arlene’s game of solitaire is interrupted by a group of teenagers looking for Ethan. As members of Class One of the Academy, they demand a reckoning because if Ethan doesn’t kill the traitors, someone will. Arlene tells them to leave.
Meanwhile, works clean up the breach in the fence. Pilcher arrives. Ethan says the town needs to learn the truth, but Pilcher says Ethan’s way isn’t working, and he can’t wait until it’s too late to act. It may only take Kate’s life to save Wayward Pines.
Off the grid
The next day, Ethan brings Harold, literally kicking and screaming, into custody. Harold demands to see Kate, but Ethan refuses. He shows Harold pictures of Alan’s and Eric’s mutilated remains then demands the names of the other rebels to keep what happened to Alan and Eric from happening to anyone else.
At the hospital, Pam finds Theresa after she leaves Ben’s room. Pam asks Theresa whether she believes what Ethan has told her. Theresa replies she doesn’t know, which Pam thinks is good. Pam then sends Theresa home, but tells her to take a different route. As Theresa leaves, she finds that Pam slipped her a key card.
At the mountain base, Ethan brings Pilcher the names Harold gave him, but they’ve all taken their chips out. Surveillance is tasked with looking for them.
Theresa, meanwhile, ends up back at Plot 33. She knocks out the security cam, goes into the shed, and finds a trapdoor. She goes down the steps. There she finds tunnels, and lights turn on. She uses the key card to enter a locked door.
A hero
Ben watches as doctors and nurses run by his door. Amy’s parents are crying outside her door. Ben tries to go in, but Pam keeps him out; there was swelling in Amy’s brain, and she needs surgery. Pam comforts Ben as he cries.
Later, Megan Fisher comes in to see Ben. She promises Ben that he isn’t alone. Ben hears a noise and looks out his window — students have gathered outside the hospital and are doing that creepy stomping thing.
Megan tells Ben there was another attack and reminds Ben that the First Generation are the true leaders of Wayward Pines. From the base, Ethan and Pilcher watch as Megan leads Ben out the front door. He speaks to the gathered group. He says those that hurt Amy broke the rules of the town, which are there for a reason. He also apologizes for his father failing. When the kids from earlier hear Ben say Ethan won’t reckon the traitors, they stalk off.
Protecting Wayward Pines
Arlene locks the doors of the sheriff’s department, but the kids break the glass. The leader, Jason, demands the keys; he says they are there to protect Wayward Pines. Arlene spits at him, so he handcuffs her to a cabinet and steals her keys. Jason opens the gun cabinet and loads the guns.
Jason, backed by the other two, opens one cell and forces the rebels out and to their knees. When Kate and Harold refuse, Jason hits Kate. Harold attacks, but Jason takes him down. He forces the rebels to repeat the motto of Wayward Pines then shoots Harold execution style. As Kate and Arlene scream, Jason shoots all the other rebels. He then prepares to shoot Kate, but Ethan shoots him first. The other kids surrender.
Later, Ethan tells Kate that Amy isn’t expected to make it, and more innocent people will die. Ethan vows to protect the other rebels, but Kate says that means no longer protecting her. She asks him to put an end to things. “Someone’s going to kill me,” she says. “I’d rather it be you.”
Proof
Theresa arrives then to show Ethan and Kate what she found: a computer with video diaries of Adam Hassler and other survivor groups from 4020. He made his way to San Francisco, but the Golden Gate Bridge is underwater. He is killed on video, and this convinces Theresa and Kate that Ethan has been telling the truth.
Ethan wants to show these videos to the town. He’ll take care of Pilcher while Theresa needs to show the videos to as many people as possible before the reckoning.
In the’s mountain base, Ethan meets Pilcher in his office. He says he’ll reckon Kate. Pilcher calls it the right decision, but Ethan replies that it’s the only decision. After tonight, though, no more. That’s all Pilcher wants. Ethan asks that the entire town be present, and Pilcher agrees.
Going public
Back to the opening scene of the episode: Ethan has a blade to Kate’s throat and the town cries for blood. Ethan pulls the blade from her throat and says he won’t kill anyone. Ethan reveals the truth, much to Pilcher’s distress. Kate, Theresa, and others who saw the videos support Ethan.
Megan dissents, saying they owe everything to Pilcher. Theresa slaps her.
Suddenly, the lights then go off; Pilcher is shutting the power down — including the power to the fence.
The Abbies are coming.
