The second Star Wars Anthology was previously going to be about Boba Fett, but now it looks like he may be sharing the spotlight with Han Solo.
Despite Chronicle and Fantastic Four director Josh Trank leaving the second Star Wars Anthology film (rumors are he was fired), we never knew what the subject of his movie was going to be about. A new report from Schmoes Know reveals that the film will be about Boba Fett and Han Solo.
The film is reportedly going to be about the relationship between the two characters, which was hinted at in the original Star Wars trilogy. The report suggests this film’s story will take place between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
It’s exciting to think about the film, despite it not hitting theaters until 2018, but this is definitely a pairing we can get behind. Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Bossk will also make appearances throughout the film, according the the source.
Disney reportedly hopes to get into the “hive of scum and villainy” that Star Wars has become known for off screen as well as on. The second anthology will look to explore the influence of Westerns and bounty hunter movies that we’ve seen before in American films, with the source citing Zero Dark Thirty and Saving Private Ryan.
Also noted is that while the studio has yet to announce a new director for the film, Iron Man director Jon Favreau and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn have been circling the movie since Trank left the production. We’d definitely enjoy seeing one of those two directors at the helm of a Star Wars film, but we’ll focus on Boba Fett and Han Solo co-starring in a future film for now.
The bigger question may be who will be playing the two characters. If the rumor’s storyline is to be trusted, it would seem we will be seeing young versions of the characters. Boba Fett was played by English actor Jeremy Bulloch in The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi. He’ll obviously need to be recast, along with Harrison Ford’s Han Solo.
There were rumors of a Han Solo Star Wars movie at one point, so it’s not surprising that Disney have decided to pair up two of the most popular characters from the original trilogy. We look forward to finding out if this ends up being true, but we imagine it could be a while until anything is confirmed, with the film set to hit theaters in 2018.
