The last piece of the puzzle has been solved. Star Wars alum Ewan McGregor has joined Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast as Lumière.
Lumière is the bright candlestick who is perhaps best known for kicking off “Be Our Guest” in Disney’s 1991 animated classic.
McGregor will undoubtedly have some great moments with the actor who has been cast as Cogsworth, Sir Ian McKellen. The clock and the candlestick are good friends in the film as they try to keep the peace between Belle and the Beast.
The latest actor to join Disney’s live-action adaptation is best known for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars films Revenge of the Sith and Attack of the Clones, but you may also recognize him from the 1996 film Trainspotting and 2003’s Big Fish.
McGregor’s casting marks the end of a very exciting series of Beauty and the Beast announcements. Emma Watson will play Belle, Dan Stevens will play The Beast, Luke Evans will play Gaston, Audra McDonald plays the Wardrobe, Josh Gad will portray LeFou, Emma Thompson will play Mrs. Potts, Kevin Kline will appear as Maurice, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw will play Lumière’s lady Plumette.
Beauty and the Beast won’t open in theaters until March 2017, but the cast have already gathered to begin filming. Gad shared this great selfie of the stars uniting for a table read on April 14.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn and Dreamgirls director Bill Condon is directing Beauty and the Beast with a script by Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Evan Spiliotopoulos.
