We finally have our first look at a bald Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill.
The image of Eisenberg as Lex was released along with an interview from Entertainment Weekly, and we think he looks a lot better than we could have imagined bald. He’s still Jesse Eisenberg, but somehow we imagine this casting choice will work out for the best. Jesse seems like he’s the type that’s willing to try anything, and Snyder is the kind of director that pushes people to their limits, physically and emotionally.
While speaking with EW, Zack Snyder said, “He’s not any of the Lexes that you’ve seen, that’s for sure, other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course […] Our Lex is disarming and he’s not fake. He says what he believes and he says what’s on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it’s all there.”
There’s some other interesting details concerning Lex Luthor and how he’ll play into the Batman v Superman storyline, so be sure to check out EW’s full interview at the link below.
When Jesse was cast as Lex, Zack Snyder had said, “Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman.”
Jesse Eisenberg definitely has the sophistication to play Luthor, but we’ve always questioned whether he’d be imposing enough to give the character a presence with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill standing next to him (please let that happen).
Snyder seems to think so, saying, “Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”
Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice will hit theaters one year from today on March 25, 2016.
