Promoting Into the Woods, Emily Blunt recalls an incident on set where she saved Meryl Streep from seriously injuring herself.
“She’s so amazing it’s annoying,” Emily Blunt says of her Into the Woods co-star Meryl Streep while promoting the film on David Letterman’s talkshow.
This is the second time the pair have acted together; in 2006, Blunt appeared as Streep’s harrowed assistant in The Devil Wears Prada. And in Into the Woods, Streep is once again tormenting Blunt’s character.
But while Blunt may play up her recurring on-screen feud with the iconic actress, she nonetheless came to Streep’s aid during the filming of the fairytale musical – saving her from having a serious accident:
Blunt describes the moment where Streep’s foot got caught in her cape and she began to topple over: co-star James Corden and director Rob Marshall froze, but the then-pregnant Blunt sprung into action and caught the falling actress.
She admits that Streep probably wouldn’t have died from the fall (“because she’s not supposed to ever die”), but “she would have been injured.”

Blunt has come up with the perfect way for Streep to pay her back: by reversing their roles, with Streep playing her lowly dressmaker in a movie, while Blunt plays the Queen of Versailles.
Into the Woods is out in cinemas on Christmas day. It also stars Anna Kendrick, Johnny Depp and Chris Pine
