Bones welcomed a new member into their family tonight. Read on for more!
Daisy is back and she is not her usual self. She is calm and collected. Angela and Cam are a bit taken aback. Meanwhile Bones collected all of Christine’s old baby toys and clothing (which could fill an entire store) and they talk about how they are going to be there for EVERYTHING because it’s Sweets baby. Ugh, tears.
Daisy’s new “calm” attitude is due to her doula. Her birthing coach is telling her that she doesn’t need pain meds and that she will be able to communicate with her baby through “feelings.” Everyone is rightly worried about Daisy and Angela takes her to her next appointment to get a feel for this lady. Bones, trying to be helpful, does not think the New Age medicine is going to be helpful but Daisy tells her that without Sweets she needs help connecting with the baby and she is doing the best she can.
The doula is a bit pushy, read: a LOT pushy. I am sure that actual doula’s are really useful so why do TV shows always portray them so comically/negatively? Oh, well. Daisy actually wanted Angela to join for the actual appointment but the doula shuts her down. Don’t want to mess energies.
While working on the case, Daisy’s water breaks and Angela and Cam take her to the hospital. Bones shows up and the doula is finally getting on everyone’s nerves. Daisy loses it and fires her. Whoop! Booth and Hodgins show up and Booth does not feel comfortable and it’s hilarious. Bones decides to distract Daisy with trying to solve the case and it works! Everyone is there for the birth of a baby boy and she names him Seeley Lance Wicks-Sweets. Booth is the first to hold him, and okay, so, I can’t type because something is in my eye, okay?!
Case of the Week – a famous puzzle maker, Lawrence Brooks, is found buried in a fracking site. The wife points the finger at his assistant who when interrogated by Booth and Aubrey didn’t realize how much the wife disliked her. However she offers to do whatever she can to help the investigation so she is off the hook for now. On top of that, there is a new suspect: a guy left a threatening voicemail a couple days before the murder. And we’re off!
Emery, our new suspect, was actually writing a book about our murder victim. He points the finger at an old college roommate who was supposedly jealous of our victim’s fame and success. Turns out the ex-roommate was accusing Lawrence of publishing one of his puzzles without giving him credit. The phone call was about legal action, but Booth and Aubrey aren’t buying it.
Our puzzle maker apparently had Alzheimers’ and was inadvertently stealing other people’s puzzles. Booth and Aubrey go back and question the wife, who had promised to never tell anyone about his illness. She was the one who was sending his old puzzles in and accidentally sent the roommate’s puzzle in. The money was dwindling and she needed to keep him in publication.
Brooks was apparently betting on an online website and had his fingers broken. Angela hacked her way in so that Aubrey could place a large losing bet. (Nice callback to Booth’s gambling addiction and Aubrey also straight up calls him on it. Nicely done.) Aubrey confronts the bookie and finds out that a girl was the better and Brooks was just her bankroller. The woman? The assistant was using his illness to pay off of her debts but didn’t kill him.
The book and Daisy reveal that Brooks had to give a baby up for adoption after the mother died. Guess who the son is? Our author, Emery, who killed him by accident when Brooks attacked him during one of his episodes. But Emery didn’t know he was sick and thought he was attacking him and playing a joke. Sad ending to that case.
