Ariel and Eric may be enjoying their honeymoon phase, but the sea goddess Ursula is heading to Storybrooke for Once Upon a Time‘s season 4 second arc!
Announced today, Merrin Dungey (Alias) will take up the physical role of Ursula as she comes to life in Once Upon a Time season 4’s spring story arc. Ursula has made an appearance in season 3 portrayed by Regina (Lana Parrilla) and again as a CGI creation voiced by Once Upon a Time super-fan, Yvette Nicole Brown.
Departing from the well-known Disney tale of the sea-witch, Ursula returns to her roots as a sea-goddess who is held in the highest regard in the coastal kingdom. Not only do they ask for her to grant them smooth seas, but once a year mermaids may ask her for the chance to walk among the humans. When Regina takes liberties to impersonate Ursula, the true sea-goddess appears and leaves her with the warning, “Next time you claim to be me, you’ll find out just how real I am.”

Dungey joins Victoria Smurfit (Cruella de Vil) and Kristin Bauer van Straten (Maleficent) in the villian category for season 4. But what could possibly bring Ursula, Cruella de Vil, and Maleficent together? Perhaps they also see themselves as victims of the storybook’s happy ending for villains clause and want in on Operation Mongoose. Knowing the Once Upon a Time creators’ track record with villainous motives, anything is possible, but they certainly are not going to come in peace!
The introduction of Cruella is set to arrive in the winter finale of Once Upon a Time, in the December 14 episode aptly titled “Heroes and Villains.”
What are your predictions for when we bid farewell to the Frozen-centric story line and head into the villain den?
