Barbie has made it back to Chester’s Mill, but getting everyone back out is going to be no easy feat, on this week’s Under The Dome.
Starting over
Needless to say, Jim does not take the news that his wife Pauline is alive, and has just been hiding out all these years, very well. She tells him it was the only way to get out of Chester’s Mill and protect everyone, because she thought the dome would follow her. Jim tells her she destroyed her own son.
Speaking of said destroyed son, he just spent the night with a former dead girl in the fallout shelter where he locked up his ex-girlfriend before she was murdered by his uncle. She kisses him and leaves, and who should show up but Angie’s ghost, bleeding from the head and telling him not to follow his heart.
Barbie is back, and explaining everything to Rebecca and Julia, saying they can use the cliff as a way of getting everyone out. Rebecca leaves to bring the first wave of people to the Sweetbriar for a briefing, and Barbie tells Julia they need to use the egg as leverage.
Melanie is not pleased that they intend to use the egg, and she won’t tell them where it is. But Barbie reveals to her that he’s realized she is actually his big sister, and they are supposed to lead people out of Chester’s Mill together. She still doesn’t want to give it up, but he convinces her to at least come to Sweetbriar to hear them out.
Pauline finds Jim in her art studio, and he tells her he wants to keep their family together now, and start over once they are safely out of the dome.
Screaming
Norrie and Joe have realized Melanie took the egg, and they want a say in what happens to it. They run into Hunter at the school, who fangirls over them for awhile, before helping them figure out that a radar gun could help them find the egg. They find one at the police station, and configure it to find the egg. However, they tell Hunter to stay put, because they don’t trust him. Phil overhears all this from his cell.
Pauline is flustered when Junior arrives, offering to fix him breakfast. Junior tries to get answers from her, and tells her that he won’t forgive Sam for what he’s done to Angie. Pauline starts having a painful vision, as the egg starts flashing down in the fallout shelter.
The townspeople are shocked to find Barbie is alive, but still hesitant to throw themselves off a cliff to save their lives. Some wanted to wait and see what Jim thought, while others were on board for the plan. Jim walks in at the tail end of the meeting, and lets them know that he’s going to be part of the plan now.
Jim tells Julia and Barbie that he’ll go over the cliff first and do all the negotiating for the town. He goes back home to find Pauline furiously painting in her studio, a picture of what she says is “the end of everything,” and looks like a building cracking, fire, and people in danger. She says the egg is screaming, and she lashes out when Jim tries to help her. He responds by locking her in the studio.
He hears the egg screaming, and follows the noise down to the fallout shelter. When he grabs the egg, it sends off a force which sends him flying across the room, knocking him out.
‘I really did love you’
Joe and Norrie arrive at the shelter to rescue the scared, screaming egg. When Norrie picks it up, it stops flashing and screaming. But Jim wakes up and tells them they’re taking it to the cliff right now, and holds Joe at gunpoint to prove his point. When they arrive at the cliff, they try to talk him out of it, but Jim knocks the egg over the cliff. He thinks he’s saved his family, but then the whole cave starts shaking.
Junior shows up at Sam’s cabin, ready to kill him. Sam tries to explain, but Junior decides to just beat the crap out of him instead, so that he suffers like Angie did. But Dome Ghost Angie shows up again, just as he’s about to finish Sam off. She tells Junior that Sam has a part to play, as do the Four Hands, and if Junior kills Sam, everyone will suffer. She says if he ever loved her, he won’t do this. And so, of course, he doesn’t.
An earthquake is wreaking havoc all around town, as paintings fall over in Pauline’s studio, Hunter takes shelter under a lab table at the school, and Phil’s cell door has come loose, and he’s escaped.
Melanie, Barbie, and Julia arrive in the fallout shelter to find that the egg is gone, and Melanie passes out. They bring her to Sam’s where Junior helps Sam save her life. He realizes that the dome saved him from killing Sam, so that Sam could save Melanie.
‘What have you done?’
Joe and Norrie are trying to climb back up to the locker, and Norrie slips. Luckily, Hunter, who overheard Jim leading them down to the cliff, is there to catch her. Hunter’s definitely being sketchy, but not as sketchy as Phil, who’s lurking around in the school.
Pauline’s visions stopped with the earthquake, and now she doesn’t know what’s going to happen. Jim tells her he threw the egg over the cliff, and that he did it for their family, and she is horrified.
Joe and Norrie tell Barbie and Julia that Jim made them throw the egg over the cliff, and they all see Phil dart for the locker, towards escape over the cliff. Barbie and Julia take off after him, but when they get to the cliff, they find it doesn’t lead to a black abyss, but rather some particularly sharp rocks, on one of which Phil is impaled. Phil is dead, and their passage is closed, leaving everyone stuck in Chester’s Mill, as the weather grows suspiciously colder.
Under The Dome season 2, episode 11, “Black Ice,” airs Monday, September 8 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
