Hypable interviewed the cast at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Read our highlights below to see what they said about season 4 and beyond!
Creator Jeff Davis was joined by Tyler Posey (Scott), Dylan Sprayberry (Liam), Dylan O’Brien (Stiles), Shelley Hennig (Malia), Tyler Hoechlin (Derek), JR Bournce (Chris Argent), and Holland Roden (Lydia) at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Here’s what they had to say about their character and the show.
Tyler Posey and Dylan Sprayberry
Posey wouldn’t give anything away when it came to spoilers for season 4, but he did say that a big death was still a possibility, even after the major one in season 3. And speaking of character deaths, Allison’s passing is still something that Scott and his friends think about, even if it isn’t at the forefront of their mind all the time. “She will never be forgotten,” he says.
Sprayberry talked a bit about his character coming into the fold as both a person and a supernatural creature. When we ask what kind of relationship he will have with Scott and Stiles, who have been friends for a long time, he says, “Scott is kind of the understanding one. He doesn’t jump on my character for doing things wrong or getting too angry. He understands. Stiles jumps on me for everything I do. He gets impatient.”
Jeff Davis
Davis couldn’t answer anything about Derek losing his powers because that would be spoiler territory for both the character and the plot of season 4. However, he did say, “We focused a lot on talking about Derek Hale this season. We wanted to give him a story line that was meaningful.”
Switching gears to Lydia, Davis says, “I want to see her struggling with her power and trying to learn it. I think if the journey is that much harder, the payoff will be that much bigger.” Parrish was also a point of interest during the conversation, with Davis saying, “This is something new,” in regards to Deputy Parrish’s as-yet unknown powers.
Dylan O’Brien and Shelley Hennig
When asked about Stiles and Malia, Hennig said, “Both of our characters make the other character better.” As she pointed out, this is great both on the show and in real relationships.
Both characters have gone through a lot in their lives, especially recently. O’Brien is happy that Stiles has returned, in a sense, and that he’s once again the human and the jokester among the main group. Hennig, meanwhile, says that while Malia got a grip on her transformation during the last full moon, she’s still working on staying in control all the time.
Tyler Hoechlin and JR Bourne
In terms of season 4 spoilers, Hoechlin says that Derek will be getting some romance, but won’t say anything else. Bourne, on the other hand, had a little more to say: “There’s going to be a moment of intense reflection for Argent, and it’s going to come at a cost.”
Derek is a major focus of Teen Wolf season 4, and although we don’t know if he’ll retain his supernatural powers, Hoechlin does say that he would continue to help Scott and the pack, even if he became human. “Those that can’t do, teach,” he intones.
Holland Roden
Roden loves the fact that Davis and the other writers humanize the world of Teen Wolf and the town of Beacon Hills. And now that Lydia is also starting to have money trouble, we can see that aspect of the show affecting her as well.
Many of the questions about Lydia had to do with her banshee powers or her love life. In terms of the former, Roden says that we will definitely learn more about where banshees come from, especially in terms of the Martin family, and that the story line will continue into season 5. And her love life? “There’s a potential love interest at the end of the season, but we don’t know who that is.”
