Casting for Arrow‘s third season continues as Karl Yune and Peter Stormare have been tapped to join the series.
Yune will join the series as Maseo Yamashiro, reports Deadline. Maseo is described as a “skilled martial artist” who is one of Oliver’s Hong Kong handlers. In his flashback appearances, he will help Oliver on his path to becoming the Arrow.
Maseo is also married to Tatsu Yamashiro, alias Katana, who was recently cast.
Maseo, we assume, is the real name of Toshi from a recent casting announcement:
Toshi will majorly recur in at least the Hong Kong flashbacks set up in the season 2 finale. He is “Oliver’s teacher and handler,” though will “eventually become a friend.” Toshi is described as “[a] well-trained operative, skilled in weaponry, combat and intelligence gathering” as well as “a devoted father and husband.”
Yune’s credits include Real Steel, Speed Racer, and Memoirs of a Geisha.
Meanwhile, Stormare will play Werner Zytle in the season 3 premiere, reports TVGuide. Werner will replace Count Vertigo (Seth Gabel), who met his end at Oliver’s hands in season 2, as Starling City’s source for the drug Vertigo. His alias will simply be Vertigo.
Interestingly, in DC Comics’ New 52 Green Arrow series, Werner Zytle is Count Vertigo. He is the ruler of a tiny nation named Vlatava, and after his family loses its fortunes, Werner becomes involved in organized crime to finance his return to power.
Stormare’s vast credits range from Fargo and The Big Lebowski to Prison Break and The Blacklist.
Arrow season 3 premieres Wednesday, October 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
