Amazon’s continued legal battles have caused them to halt pre-orders for The Lego Movie on DVD and Blu-ray, as well as multiple other films.
We reported on Stephen Colbert’s rant concerning the feud between Amazon and Hachette books and how problems between the two have gotten so bad that Amazon has started trying to discourage customers from purchasing Hachette books by delaying and preventing pre-orders.
Now Amazon is taking their, what some would call immoral, battle to movies that fans will certainly want to get their hands on. They’ve now stopped pre-orders for The Lego Movie, due to some legal disputes between Amazon and Warner Bros.
Other films losing the ability to pre-order include 300: Rise of an Empire, Winter’s Tale, Transcendence and many others. This reportedly started in mid-May, where Amazon stopped taking pre-orders on Warner Bros. movies altogether. We imagine with the involvement of the highly popular Lego Movie will cause fans to look elsewhere to purchase the highly anticipated film.
Amazon is a giant, but they’re finding themselves in a heated battle with some of the biggest publishers in the world. Turning fans away from some of the most popular films and books isn’t exactly the best way to gain or keep their current customers.
We hope that Amazon finds a way to resolve its issues with the publishers so that buyers can get back to purchasing their favorite films and books on the website which was once seen as the only place to purchase books and now films.
As long as they continue disputes with these large publishers and studios, we imagine more and more fans will turn to other outlets to make their purchases. Amazon is unlikely to want to bleed users as they jump ship from a company which appears to simply be flexing its muscles for poor reasons.
Luckily for us, there are multiple other places to pre-order and pick up The Lego Movie or author J.K. Rowling’s The Cuckoo’s Calling sequel, The Silkworm.
