Sherlock will be returning to our screens next year, and today we got a brand new look at what’s in store for series 3. Sherlock lives!
Check out the video below, thanks to the BBC.
The trailer begins with a shot of Sherlock’s grave, covered in flowers, then switches to John’s face…covered in mustache. (Are we ever going to get used to that?) We see Sherlock walking through a pair of doors, and Watson seemingly realizing that he still lives.
And it looks like Sherlock wants his return from the dead to be known, as everyone’s phones start blowing up with messages that he is, in fact, alive.
The United States premiere for Sherlock series 3 is on January 19 at 10 p.m., but we still don’t know when the show will be airing in the U.K.
Meanwhile, you can read the synopsis for Sherlock series 3, episode 1 below, which is titled “The Empty Hearse.”
Two years after the devastating events of ‘The Reichenbach Fall’, John appears to have got on with his life. New horizons and romance beckon. But, with London under threat of a devastating terrorist attack, Sherlock is about to take John at his word, staging his resurrection with all the theatricality that comes so naturally to him. If Sherlock thinks everything will be just as he left it, though, he’s in for a very big surprise.

We also have the first episodic still from Sherlock series 3, episode 1. Sherlock looks in on Watson, who’s dining at a cafe, and based on this synopsis, the scene seems to be taking place at least two years after Sherlock’s fall. This is, presumably, when he plans to reveal to Watson that he’s still alive.
It’s going to be a long wait until January!
