Did you think Game of Thrones couldn’t climb higher after their critically acclaimed “Red Wedding” episode? One of season 4’s directors says they’re going to try.
In a new interview with Flicks in the City, Game of Thrones season 4 penultimate episode director Neil Marshall says that his episode may very well be as gory and devastating as season 3’s “Red Wedding.”
“I wouldn’t doubt it,” Marshall said when asked if he can create as dramatic a story in season 4, episode 9. “I think that’s one of the key things of Game of Thrones, which is to take characters that you loved for three of four years and then butcher them brutally. Yeah, there’s a bit of drama and tragedy in my episode so I’m sure there is for the rest of the season as well.”
Marshall also directed Game of Thrones season 2, episode 9 “Blackwater.”
In a separate but recently interview, Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington said that season 4 has up’d the kill count. There are “more deaths this season than any other,” he said. “You’d think they’d tone the deaths down, but they don’t. They’ve realized that’s a successful option, so they’re just killing more people than they’ve ever killed.”
While fans probably won’t agree that they shouldn’t kill for the sake of killing, we know that A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin is not too kind to the characters in his book series which the show is based on.
Game of Thrones season 4 is currently filming and is expected to premiere in spring 2014.
