The new webseries Emma Approved debuted today, as the creators of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries bring Jane Austen’s Emma into the 21st century. Watch the new episode here!
Fans of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries rejoice! The creative team behind the modern adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is back with Emma Approved, bringing the English novelist’s popular story Emma into the digital age. The new series premiered today on the Pemberly Digital YouTube channel. Check out the first episode, “I am Emma Woodhouse,” right here.
In the first episode of Emma Approved, we are introduced to Emma Woodhouse, young entrepreneur who runs the “matchmaking and lifestyle” division of the Highbury Partners lifestyle group. Ambitious and driven, Emma is basking in the glow of her 20th successful match – this one between cupcake maven Ryan Weston (Gabriel Voss) and her friend, foodie Annie Taylor (Alexis Boozer.) Emma’s boss Alex Knightly (Brent Bailey) interrupts her documentation of her greatness to ask her about work and bugs her to hire an assistant.
The episode ends as Annie calls Emma to talk about something important. Emma steamrolls over Annie for a while until Annie blurts out that she is thinking of calling off her wedding to Ryan.
Emma Approved will focus on Austen’s heroine Emma Woodhouse who is played by Joanna Sotomura. Emma already has an online presence, including a website called EmmaApproved.com, a YouTube channel and a Twitter account. Already, it’s clear that fashion and romance draw significant interest from Ms. Woodhouse.
Other characters from the episode have also popped up on social media, including Annie Taylor and her cupcake-obsessed fiance-for-now Ryan Weston. You can also follow Emma’s boss Alex Knightly, and some dude named Frank Churchill. One Harriet Smith is also among the recently be-Twittered.
Emma Approved is co-created by Bernie Su and Hank Green, who followed up the wildly popular Lizzie Bennet Diaries with the adventures of Gigi Darcy in Welcome to Sanditon.
