Speaking at a Beverly Hills stockholder event on Thursday, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara addressed today’s news concerning J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff movie series.
Tsujihara said the “hope is that we’re going to build a film franchise.” He wouldn’t confirm additional movies at this time but emphasized that it would be their goal.
In addition, Tsujihara revealed that “an attraction within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at theme parks run by Universal Parks and Resorts” is part of the plans for Fantastic Beasts/Newt Scamander. He also reiterated there will be a video game, as was mentioned in the press release.
This morning Rowling and Warner Bros. made a joint announcement unveiling the new movie series for which the former will write the screenplay. It is set 70 years prior to the start of Harry Potter’s story. “I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about and this is it,” she said in a press release.
Universal Orlando is currently constructing a Wizarding World Diagon Alley expansion in their Universal Studios park. We don’t believe that the current expansion is tied into this new movie series, but we have heard previously that the theme park intends to add new features every few years, and it’s probable that the next expansion could see Fantastic Beasts elements.
