Downton Abbey series 4 will see the introduction of a few new characters who will serve as potential suitors for Lady Mary.
The availability of her love comes on the heels of Downton Abbey‘s series 3 finale when her husband Matthew tragically passed away hours after the birth of their firstborn.
ITV released first look photos Wednesday morning of new actors (who we’ve told you about previously) in their Downton roles:
Lord Gillingham
“He is dashing and charming and having had similar experiences with his own inheritance gives Lady Mary advice on the Downton estate and in particular the issue of death duties.”
Charles Blake
“Along with Evelyn Napier (friend of Mr Pamuk in series 1) Blake is evaluating the economic health of big estates around the country in order to help them run more efficiently. Which doesn’t sit well with Lady Mary.”
Jack Ross
“A charming, suave and charismatic jazz singer from Chicago. Jack sings at the Lotus jazz club in London which is visited one night by Branson and Ladies Mary, Rose and Rosamund.”

Speaking to the media last week, Michelle Dockery (who plays Lady Mary) spoke about her character’s life post-Matthew. “There is a life without Matthew,” she said. “The fourth [season] is about recovery. She’s starting a new life. In some ways, there are similarities to [Season] 1 before Mary got together with Matthew. There’s various suitors that are being thrown in her direction. But she’s very reluctant to go through with any of it because, of course, she can’t stop thinking about Matthew. He’s still very much a part of her thoughts. She’ll never get over it.”
Maybe the dashing looks on any of these three gentlemen will help her move on – but we doubt it’ll happen until the second half of series 4 or series 5.
Downton Abbey series 4 is expected to premiere next month.
