Community just aired its season 4 finale. How’d you like it as a season…or possible series (gulp) finale? Share your thoughts below!
It’s been a brief but controversial season of Community. Things kicked off with creator Dan Harmon’s unceremonious firing. Then word leaked that Chevy Chase would be leaving the show sometime late in the season’s run of episodes, creating a season-long guessing game as to when Pierce would disappear. His first absence was in episode nine, “Intro to Felt Surrogacy,” though he did do the voice over for his puppet as stipulated by his agreement with NBC to leave the show.
New showrunners Moses Port and David Guarascio went out of their way all year to appeal to the “old” Community fans, consistently referencing old storylines and trying wildly experimental storylines, such as the puppet episode and last week’s “Heroic Origins.”
Still, despite the apparent loyalty to Harmon’s style, Community was a fundamentally different show – a new show, even. And just like any new show, it took a few episodes to find its footing. It’s safe to say that the season improved as it progressed, but did the finale reach the heights of previous seasons?
We had the return of the darkest timeline and a renewed focus on Jeff’s desire to graduate. What are your lingering thoughts now that this 13-episode season has wrapped up? Did it work as a season finale, or maybe even a series finale?
