Shonda Rhimes has the uncanny ability to make the best things come together, and it would appear she has struck gold again. Last night, she tweeted that a very familiar face has joined the cast of her hit new show, Scandal: John Barrowman.
The ABC political thriller, which stars Django Unchained’s Kerry Washington, has really started to hit its stride after its mid-season premiere last year. Its most recent episode received its highest viewing numbers to date. No details have been released as to whether Barrowman’s role will be anything more than just a guest starring spot. In this writer’s humble opinion, Scandal would be the perfect fit for him. Anyone familiar with John Barrowman’s body of work will know he has a flair for the dramatic, something which is in no short supply on a show like Scandal.
Barrowman currently stars on the CW’s Arrow as a wealthy businessman and main antagonist Malcolm Merlyn. But it’s entirely possible that his character will depart in the season finale, which airs Wednesday May 15, with our favourite Glaswegian moving on to greener pastures. While Shondaland’s newest hit has not been renewed for a 3rd season yet, the odds are looking good. Here’s hoping Barrowman can capitalize on the Grey’s Anatomy creator’s Midas touch and expand on his guest star role.
