This morning we shared an article from UK tabloid The Sun who reported that the Harry Potter cast have reunited to shoot something for one of the theme parks.
Since then, websites elsewhere have gone out of control with the headlines.
“NEW Harry Potter Movie In The Works! For Real!,” wrote the always-inaccurate and IQ-reducing PerezHilton.com. “Harry Potter stars secretly filming ninth movie,” said NewNowNext.com.
These types of headlines were scattered across the internet today, but perhaps the most worrying was a report on ABC’s World News Tonight – a professional and reputable news program. They reported towards the end of their broadcast this evening that a mini movie is being filmed for the California Wizarding World park at Universal Studios Hollywood.
We don’t have confirmed information, but our very, very strong feeling is that this is patently false.
Over the past year we’ve been telling you that Universal is working on expanding the Wizarding World Orlando, and rumors indicate that Gringotts will be the new thrill ride. With Helena Bonham Carter involved with this reported filming for the parks, our theory is that they’re shooting sequences for the Gringotts ride. We predict you’ll get to break into and escape out of Gringotts, and face an angry Bellatrix.
Wizarding World Hollywood, announced one year ago, will have Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – the same ride already at Orlando. So, there is no need to shoot scenes again like World News Tonight suggested.
We’re shocked that a reputable news program like World News Tonight would base their story off of rumors floating around the web, hence this Rumor Control post.
