Joust Friends
Drunk, Sore, and Immobile
Galavant is dreaming about saving Madalena while on the road with his squire, Sid, and Princess Isabella. They’re having fun on their journey at first, but as it continues they start getting sick of each other. That’s when they realize that Galavant is incredibly out of shape. They’re also poor and without money, so they can’t afford a place to stay. However they can’t sleep on the road either because it’s filled with questionable people, but Sid finds an ad for a jousting competition. Huzzah!
There’s a hundred shillings entry fee for the competition, but instead of putting it down (because they can’t afford it) they actually use the jewel of Valencia as collateral. Because she doesn’t want to lose the jewel and Galavant is unprepared, Isabella convinces the tournament master to move Galavant to the final based on merit. They use the extra day to train and get better, but it does not go as planned.
Galavant definitely improves over the course of the day, but when the time comes to fight against John Hamm, his nemesis, and his entire body is so cramped and sore that he can’t move. Luckily Isabella already planned ahead and got John drunk so they would win, so it leads to a very uneventful jousting match. They both fall to the ground and the first person to get back up wins, leading to Galavant’s success.
An Unlovable Child
Meanwhile at the castle King Richard’s bodyguard, Gareth, tells him he needs to man up to impress Madalena. They have dinner and, instead of having the chef feed him with airplane sounds (yes, that happened), he feeds himself and drinks mead.
They actually hold a conversation, Madelena about having to eat her favorite pet, and King Richard about how he never ate with his parents. They sing a song about how they hate each other but sometimes like each other, but it ends with them Madelena telling him he’s unlovable.
