After the box office success of Big Hero 6 this past weekend, Disney Animation has set the release dates for their next two films titled Zootopia and Moana.
Big Hero 6 opened big this weekend, bringing in a grand total of a currently estimated $56.2 million, winning over Interstellar and its round $50 million estimate.
Following their victory, Walt Disney Animation Studios has wasted no time in dating their next two projects, Zootopia and Moana.
The first of the two films to bow will be Zootopia which will hit theaters on March 4, 2016 in 3D. Currently Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children also opens on this date.
The synopsis for Zootopia reads: “In the animal city of Zootopia, a fast-talking fox who’s trying to make it big goes on the run when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Zootopia’s top cop, a self-righteous rabbit, is hot on his tail, but when both become targets of a conspiracy, they’re forced to team up and discover even natural enemies can become best friends.”
Here’s the previously released Zootopia concept art:
Moana will follow on Nov. 23, 2016 in 3D. This is only one week after J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, so it will have some stiff competition for sure.
The synopsis for Moana reads: “In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”
Walt Disney Animation Studios won’t release a film next year due to Pixar releasing two films in 2015. The first is Inside Out, which bows on June 19, and The Good Dinosaur will follow it on November 25.
