Universal has released the first trailer for their upcoming animated feature Minions, and unsurprisingly, it looks great.
The minions are the adorable yellow creatures who first surfaced in 2010’s Despicable Me. Following a hit sequel in July 2013, Universal’s next film in the franchise is one that looks at the origins of the minions before they met Gru.

The Minions trailer reveals that the story will primarily follow Stuart, Kevin and Bob after they break away from their fellow minions because they want to search for a villain they can stand behind.
Says Universal in an email, “The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill [voiced by Sandra Bullock], the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.”
The studio says that the soundtrack is made up of “hit music” from the 1960s, as the trailer alludes to.
Minions hits theaters July 10, 2015 and is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, the same co-directing team behind the two Despicable Me films.
After the world welcomed the minions into pop culture following the original Despicable Me, the sequel dramatically upped the amount of time spent on the little yellow guys. Minions is a natural step forward and we can’t wait to see what new antics they’ll be up to this time around.
