The writers of Hypable weigh in on how they believe their favorite couples will fare in Once Upon a Time season 4! Let us know what you think!
Season 3 of Once Upon a Time ended with one uncertain relationship, one major love triangle, a blissful growing family, and one secret wooded wedding. Now that season 4’s premiere is upon us, the writers of Hypable offer their takes on the current relationships that will continue, debut, or potentially end when the show premieres this weekend!
Emma and Hook:
Where we left them:
If you are a fan of Captain Swan, the finale of season 3 probably had you jumping up and down and squealing into a pillow for a majority of the two-part episode. But even before the pair went back in time, Hook’s confession in the Echo Cave of Neverland revealed the allegiance of the pirate’s heart. As Emma departed Storybrooke with her memory wiped, fans waited with baited breathe for Hook to waltz into New York and bring her back to save Storybrooke yet again. Killian and Henry’s bond grew over the season, an important factor for Emma to consider, we might add! Finally, at the close of season 3, saw the duo dancing at a ball, gazing into each other’s eyes, and finally finding out that Hook traded the Jolly Roger for his one and only lady. How much more could you want?
What we want to see in season 4:
It was wonderful to finally see this unlikely couple get together in season 4. But let’s avoid making Once Upon a Time‘s best ship become boring too fast! I like to think they’ll eventually find a way to be happy together while not having to compromise their strong personalities… but there’s a long and bumpy road ahead (I hope). They don’t have the irrevocable True Love that some of the other couples have, but they have a real, genuine connection — I’d like to see as much as possible thrown at them, and to see them overcoming all obstacles together. This way we can keep their relationship a major story line, without risking a pointless breakup. –Selina
While the ending of last season finally gave us some Emma/Hook love, I find it unlikely that things will be smooth sailing for this couple over the next season. Love in Storybrooke is never easy, so I have little hope that Emma and Hook will remain unscathed as the season unfolds. –Jennifer
I have a combination of things I’d like to see in season 4: Awkward encounters, introduce Hook to one modern technology per week, a little tiff here and there, make up, introduce a new wardrobe (lose the leather jackets, both of you) and one amazing DATE. –Brittany
Regina and Robin:
Where we left them:
This one is certainly complicated. Robin and Regina were all set to begin their lives together. They loved each other. Regina was getting attached to Robin’s son. They clearly understood each other, and were ready to put aside old wounds to make a fresh start. All of this was too good to be true, as Emma managed to save Marian and bring her to Storybrooke. Just when Robin thought he’d never see his first love again, she pops up and Regina is left with the carpet pulled right out from under her again. Worst of all, once again Emma is the cause, however unwitting, of Regina’s unhappiness.
What we want to see in season 4:
As much as it seems natural that Robin and Marian should be together, we can’t help rooting against them. It seems mind boggling that Regina is left alone, once again pulled back from the brink of true love. Not that we want to wish a dread disease on Marian, but…come to think of it…that’s exactly what we want! Some way, some how, we need Marian out of the picture, and Regina to be with Robin. Marian can meet a heroic end, or get taken out by the common cold. We aren’t picky. We just need Robin and Regina together. Laura
This is the perfect romance dilemma: Robin now has TWO True Loves at the same time! The obvious solution would be for Robin to choose Marian (who is the mother of his child), leading Regina down a path of darkness yet again… but I hope the show will shake things up and have Robin end up choosing Regina. Your first love doesn’t necessarily have to be your last, and Regina’s lost too much already. –Selina
I really liked this pairing and it us unfortunate that Marion made her return just as they were getting started. I don’t think the decision is completely made for Robin and there will be many complications as this relationship unfolds. I want Regina to find her true love and I’m not completely sold that Robin is it. –Jennifer
Belle and Rumple:
Where we left them:
Belle is the voice in a twisted man’s head, and he is the Beast that rounds out her tale. As Belle mentions in their hidden forest nuptials, the two survived long separations, evil curses, and even death. Convincing as their history may be, their happily ever after comes at the cost of Rumpel’s dagger swap. But the deceit and lies, as sincere as Rumpel comes off, do not bode well for the couple as they walk into their honeymoon in season 4.
What we want to see in season 4:
Yeah, I’m sorry, but I’m not happy about what happened with Rumbelle last season. I wish I could be excited about their wedding, but considering how horribly Rumpel had just betrayed Belle by giving her a fake dagger, I wish they’d kept the wedding for a time when they were actually, truly happy together — treating each other as equals, for better or worse. As long as Belle keeps being ruthlessly manipulated like one of his puppets, and as long as she keeps blindly forgiving him, I just can’t get behind this relationship. –Selina
This relationship is headed for splitsville. Rumpel hasn’t changed enough to have earned Belle’s love. He has lied, killed and manipulated in ways that are beyond unacceptable. Rumpel will have to face that before he and Belle could ever truly be happy together. And honestly, once Belle finds out, it is unlikely she will stick around. True love can only forgive so much. –Jennifer
