In addition to the season’s promotional cast photo, stills from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1 have been released – and nobody looks particularly happy.
A slew of new images have been released from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1, giving us a new feel for the anxiously-awaited premiere. The episode, titled “Shadows,” will find Team Coulson faced with new threats and new allies, who may or may not be perfectly trustworthy.
Speaking of new faces, it’s worth starting off with the official cast photo for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, which features new cast members and not a single smile.
It’s a bit jarring to see new faces among Coulson’s previously intimate team, but we’re certainly willing to give the new blood a chance. The two characters at the back of the shot are Lance Hunter (with his arms crossed, played by Nick Blood) and Alphonso “Mac” Mackenzie (Henry Simmons.) Less new but very welcome is the stalwart Agent Triplett (B.J. Britt).
As for our returning main cast, well – they all look properly miserable, don’t they? And not to get too Art History on this image, but we can’t help but notice that only two cast members are looking at anyone else. Agent May’s eyes rest approvingly on Skye (who seems to have raided her closet,) while Fitz stares across the distance at Simmons.
Make of that what you will, agents.
The still photos from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1 are not quite as fascinating, though they do offer a satisfying look at Lucy Lawless’ first appearance as Agent Isabelle Hartley. Though not included in the cast photo, Hartley would fit right in – she looks pissed.
There are also several stills of Adrian Pasdar (and his oddly lumpy head) reprising the role of General Talbot. It seems that Talbot has some kind of altercation with presumed baddie-of-the-week Carl “Crusher” Creel (Brian Patrick Wade), also known as the Absorbing Man.
But it’s okay, Agent May will save him.
The official synopsis for “Shadows” is rather vague, but it seems that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1 will focus on the new characters making their way into Team Coulson’s life. (And judging by this photo of Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, old characters will be showing up as well.)
“Coulson and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources,” the summary says, “but that’s not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?”
Good question. We can’t wait for the answer.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1, “Shadows,” will air on Sept. 23 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
