A new trailer for the final season of True Blood was released by HBO today and invokes some nostalgia alongside new footage.
The 90-second preview uses footage from previous seasons of True Blood to tout season 7, including a classic clip of Sookie noting that Bon Temps’ first vampire has arrived in town. (Oh, to be so new to the supernatural world.)
There are a few comments from past characters that seemingly relate to the final season. For example, Sookie’s grandmother offers some wise advice: “There is a purpose for everything. That purpose will be revealed when the time is right.” Obviously, that time is season 7.
Today’s trailer offers a couple teases into the season 7 plot line: Sookie is taking blame for a lot of the trouble that has been brought down on Bon Temps, and Sam at one point wonders if their lives will ever be fulfilled. Bill also mentions the existence of half-vampires, who will be up to no good in these final episodes.
While the trailer looks good, we hope the show keeps the focus on the core characters instead of spending too much time on people like Eric’s sister, who makes a brief appearance in the above video. The fans deserve a proper send off for all of their favorites.
By the way, we like that the special effects (namely the vampires moving quickly) still look as cheesy as they did when the show began in 2008.
True Blood season 7 premieres Sunday, June 22 at 9 p.m. eastern/pacific on HBO for a 10-episode run. If you can’t wait until then, be sure to check out another trailer with a bunch more new footage.
