Great news for Game of Thrones fans: the people behind the award-winning The Walking Dead game series are developing several games based on the HBO series.
Soon you will be able to take control of Westeros – or fail trying, in a truly epic fashion.
Telltale Games has announced plans to develop not one, but a series of video games based on HBO’s Game of Thrones.
This company is best known for their critically acclaimed The Walking Dead game, which was structured like a season of the show, split into five episodes that became available one by one.
The Walking Dead games also wowed its players by presenting a vast universe and a narrative which was partially constructed by the player herself – each decision in the game would change the story, and lead to new opportunities.
CEO of Telltale Games Dan Connors says in a statement that the forthcoming games will, “Put [the players] in control of the epic stories of warfare, intrigue, violence and revenge that we know and love.”
The game is based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire saga, and will tell the story of seven noble families fighting for control of Westeros.
The first game will be released in 2014, to be made available on PC, Mac, video game consoles and mobile devices.
Of course this is far from the first Game of Thrones game: Cyanide’s RPG game also at times allowed players to influence the storyline, as they switched between two different characters, and players could form alliances and battle each other in the Facebook-based Game of Thrones Ascent multiplayer game.
